Yelena Shram, a 28‑year-old night guard, was then murdered around the corner on Kosiora Street. His mother found the body in the morning by their apartment building on Bohdan-Khmelnytsky Street. The first was Egor Nechvoloda, a recently discharged army recruit, who was bludgeoned while walking home from a nightclub. On the night of 6 July, three more people were murdered in Dnipro. On July 1, two more victims, Yevgenia Grischenko and Nikolai Serchuk, were found murdered in the nearby town of Novomoskovsk. The bench was located across the street from the local public prosecutor's office. Tatarevich's head was smashed with blunt objects numerous times, rendering him unrecognizable. Within an hour of the first murder, the two men attacked their next victim, Roman Tatarevich, as he slept on a bench near the first murder scene. Ilchenko's body was found by her mother at 5:00 a.m. As Ilchenko walked past, Suprunyuk "spun around" and hit her in the side of the head. According to Sayenko's confession, he and Suprunyuk were "out for a walk". The first victim was a 33-year-old woman, Yekaterina Ilchenko, who was walking home after having tea at her friend's apartment. The first two murders occurred late on 25 June 2007. The lawyers for Sayenko and Suprunyuk launched an appeal, which was dismissed by the Supreme Court of Ukraine in November 2009. Sayenko and Suprunyuk were sentenced to life imprisonment, while Hanzha received nine years in prison. On 11 February 2009, all three defendants were found guilty. Ī third conspirator, Alexander Hanzha ( Ukrainian: Олександр Ганжа, Russian: Александр Ганжа), born February 1988, was charged with two armed robberies that took place before the murder spree. The case gained additional notoriety because the killers made video recordings of some of the murders, with one of the videos leaking to the Internet. The Dnepropetrovsk maniacs ( Ukrainian: Дніпропетровські маніяки, Russian: Днепропетровские маньяки) are Ukrainian serial killers responsible for a string of murders in Dnipropetrovsk in June and July 2007.

Players follow the narrator as he wanders across this empty environment, listening as he details the events that presumably lead him to arrive in this desolate environment. On the surface, the initial setup suggests that the whole game takes place on an unnamed island in the Hebrides, an archipelago of barren rocks off the coast of western Scotland, remembered to those that know of them for their stark beauty and harsh weather. In fact it might be argued that it's about the complete opposite of that. The truth is though that Dear Esther isn't about control. Indeed, the term 'walking simulator', which many early reviewers coined as a form of denigration, is a very shallow label that has been slapped onto Dear Esther and other games sharing its features as a way to try and name the unnameable, placing it under control. In this way, it bestrides the boundaries between media, leaving those disinclined to accept that some things cannot truly be categorized struggling for purchase. Dear Esther's 'goal' is to make players sit and think about the setting about the story and about what it all means to them. Perhaps the best counter-argument to this is that the experience isn't so much about finding an answer or achieving a goal as it is about seeing what you do when you realize that neither of those things exist. This is where a large part of the controversy surrounding Dear Esther stems from, since many argue that since it has no classically defined goals or plot, it cannot be referred to as a 'game'. Unreality is very much an unstated theme of the game's plot, which weaves together the strange sights and odd narration into a bizarre piece of post-modern story-telling that is less a progression of events from point A to point B and more of an effort to provoke introspection and specific feelings, like a piece of art. This complements the starkly-real yet subtly-unreal environment by leaving the player in a perpetual state of confusion as they struggle to find a way that everything they are seeing and hearing fits together. Rather, it is a collection of plot points which can be assembled in almost any fashion to produce a narrative of one's choosing. One of the first things that sets Dear Esther apart that it is not told as a linear story. Like everything from The Chinese Room, the experience and story are the meat of the material. The Landmark Edition is now the only version available, but as I stated, don't feel you're missing out on anything. It's a highly subjective piece of work, but for the sake of this equally-subjective review, I'll do my best to offer what I think.Īfterwards, if you're so inclined, you can go and pick the game up on Steam for just $9.99 (or less if it's a sale). What those are exactly has been discussed over and over, perhaps just as much as whether Dear Esther deserves the title of 'game' rather than say 'interactive art piece'. All in all though, the divide between new and old isn't worth discussing so much as the game's message and impact, which the Landmark Edition serves to highlight. The changes are minor, with most of the graphics receiving only subtle alterations and a few new lines of narration that were originally left on the cutting room floor serving to separate the two versions. Later redeveloped for commercial release by the developers, who had by then formed their own studio dubbed The Chinese Room, the controversy surrounding the 'game' has survived intact, all the way up to the release of this latest Landmark Edition, which serves as a sort of celebration of the game and the effects it had on the world indie developers.įrankly, there's not a huge world of difference between the original commercial release of Dear Esther and this new version. Released in 2008 to minimal fanfare, it soon garnered critical acclaim as word of mouth allowed it to gain recognition for its avante-garde approach to game design and storytelling. Dear Esther started as a free-to-play stand-alone modification for Half-Life 2. This act specifically “grandfathered” in any ingredients that were in use prior to passage of the law, although there is no authoritative list of pre-1994 ingredients. The regulatory framework for dietary supplements, created in 1994, is known as the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA). Manufacturers have significant leeway when choosing ingredients. market, with no need for proof of safety or efficacy prior to sale. Any individual or company can bring a new supplement to the U.S. Minimal regulation of the dietary supplement industry by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows a low barrier to entry for the sale of new supplements. In fact, such involvement often extends far beyond endorsements: actresses, reality TV stars, social media influencers, models, and makeup companies have all developed their own lines of “beauty” supplements. This rise is attributed in part to social media marketing and the use of celebrity endorsements. The global beauty supplements market specifically was valued at approximately $3.5 billion in 2016, and is expected to reach almost $7 billion by 2024. Studies estimate that over 50% of the US population take some form of a dietary supplement. Skin, hair, and nail supplements, also known as dermatology or beauty supplements, are becoming increasingly popular. Patients must also be educated about the multiple gaps in our knowledge of dietary supplements, especially in terms of efficacy and long-term safety. These include risks related to supplement ingredients and dosages, as well as risks related to the lack of regulatory oversight. Given limited regulation of dietary supplements, it is imperative that physicians educate patients on the potential risks. These included vitamins, minerals, food extracts, botanicals, animal products (collagen, fish oils), amino acids, a hormone, and distinct microbial strains.Ĭonclusion: This survey of “dermatology” supplements available in local retailers raised several safety concerns, including potential interactions, teratogenicity risks, a lack of independent third-party testing, lack of warning labels, and nutrient “overdosing”. Results: A total of 176 separate supplements were identified, containing a total of 255 distinct ingredients. Data were extracted from the Supplement Facts label of each product. Methods: Dermatology supplements were defined as those that featured the words “skin”, “hair”, “nails”, “beauty”, or “glow” in the product name or tagline. Seven stores including drug, grocery, department, and cosmetics stores were surveyed within a three-mile radius. As no centralized database or repository for these supplements is available, the aim of this study was to provide an overview of supplements in a sample of retail stores, with a focus on safety concerns. Background: Dietary supplements promoted for “skin, hair, and nail” health are becoming increasingly popular, although there is a lack of regulatory oversight. OCCT 8.0.0 Advanced Thread Settings, Source: Core Cycler isn't the only one than can check individual cores and cycle through them – check OCCT 8.0.0 that I just released ? The new version of OCCT can switch threads as fast at 150ms, which could be useful to find the culprit of the instability of the system. OCCT has an advantage over CoreCycler and CTR, as it offers core cycling testing on both Intel and AMD CPUs, whereas the other tools are limited to AMD Ryzen. Enter OCCT, CoreCycler, or Clock Tuner for Ryzen, all three tools offer a way to verify the stability and overclocking potential of the processor, or more precisely of each core. This AMD overclocking/undervolting technology works on a per-core basis but does not provide an easy way to verify which cores are performing better. Both tools give you an option to test individual cores, which could be very handy when manually adjusting AMD Curve Optimizer. Just a day after we reported on CoreCycler, a community-based AMD Ryzen 5000 tunning tool for Curve Optimizer, we were notified by the OCCT developer that the latest version of the software also comes with a similar feature. Zero bloat, zero features no one asked for, very lightweight, can match your Windows theme, free to download, includes an informative YouTube tutorial, and the app also gets regular updates. Overall, FanControl is a marvelous fan control software. Very helpful if your GPU gets hotter than your CPU while gaming or working. Very helpful for Ryzen 5000 users, especially those owning the 5800X, 5900X, and 5950X CPUs.įanControl also supports assigning different thermal sources for your case fans. You can also create manual offsets for all fans, so they don’t ramp up the millisecond the CPU temperature changes. You can customize names, show the speed of each fan in percents or RPM (or both), hide phantom fans (probably there because the app reads data from the motherboard, which sometimes lists every fan header, regardless of whether or not you have a true fan attached to a header). The app supports manual control of all fans in your case, including CPU, GPU, and case fans. We know it’s impossible to do this but still. It’s a shame you cannot use the app to control RGB fan effects. If you ask us, this small but powerful piece of software looks better than all of those bulky, slow, and unnecessarily complex apps from the likes of MSI, Corsair, and others. First of all, the UI looks modern and is in line with the Windows 10 minimalistic design. Once you check out the video, it’s time to discover your next favorite fan control software firsthand. And if you have any questions or want to report a bug, there’s a FanControl page on the LTT forums. It’s incredibly detailed and will teach you how to master FanControl. It has a slight learning curve, so we recommend everyone watch the app’s YouTube tutorial playlist. The result is the best fan control software you can get right now. FanControl: Best overall fan control softwareįanControl is the brainchild of a single developer, Remi Mercier, who found that the good old (not anymore) SpeedFan doesn’t work with their board. If it’s the latter, get the software from the fan controller manufacturer. If it’s the former, get an RGB fan controller software from your motherboard manufacturer. When it comes to which software to use, it depends on whether you have RGB fans connected directly to the board fan headers or via fan controller hardware. Sadly, there’s not a single ARGB software that one can use across the field. We rounded up the best fan control software to use.īefore we start, don’t forget that if you have ARGB fans, you’ll need RGB fan software to control RGB effects. Whichever the case may be, you’re probably looking for the best fan control software. They’re also handy for manually tweaking CPU and GPU fans to get the best possible noise to performance ratio. But then, in many cases, loud case fans can ruin the celebration. His more famous recordings were with his little orchestra, "Bix and his Gang", in 1927. His compositions like "In a Mist" and "In the Dark" are very advanced for the time.
